Mohammed Zeidan

Mohammed Zeidan

Like a significant number of the other GMJ organisers, Mohammed Zeidan – chair of the Higher Arab Monitoring Committee – took part in the 2010 flotilla and was aboard the ‘Mavi Marmara’ when its passengers attacked Israeli soldiers trying to apprehend the ship. In his subsequent testimony to the Turkel Commission, Zeidan however claimed that he was not aware of the identity of the flotilla’s organisers.

A keen supporter of Raed Salah of the Hamas-linked Northern Islamic Movement, Zeidan met with the UK Ambassador in Israel to demand Salah’s release following his arrest by the British authorities in 2011.

Zeidan and his group campaigned unsuccessfully against Israel’s entry into the OECD and against US opposition to the unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state at the UN.

In 2011, Zeidan travelled to an IHH-organised event in Turkey on the anniversary of the 2010 flotilla which was also attended by representatives of the Iranian regime, Hamas activists and various flotilla and convoy organisers.

Here he is at the event press conference, seated third from the right. Also pictured are Mohammed Sawalha, Nabil Hallak and Zaher Birawi – all GMJ organisers.
